Enjoy panoramic views of the Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site at this spectacular coastal location.
National Trust Stonebarrow lies at the west end of the Golden Cap Estate (managed by National Trust) just above the popular village of Charmouth. Hiring a Tramper enables you to explore this beautiful location with friends and family.
The routes start and end at the Old Radar Station Compound (see location information below) with Tramper hire normally available from May to the end of October.
Please note that this hire location is cash only - card payment cannot be accepted.
Tramper Routes
Golden Cap viewpoint
The route takes you to a lovely viewpoint where you can see across to Lyme Regis in the west and Golden Cap (the highest point on the Southwest coast) to the east. Birds including stonechats and occasionally the Dartford Warbler can be seen, as well as a variety of seabirds offshore and butterflies too
Cains Folly viewpoint
A circular route around Stonebarrow Hill, taking in views of Lyme Regis, Devon and the route back to the base rewards you with distant views of Golden Cap. Bird song, wind rustling through the gorse and dappled sunlight are some of the highlights on this trail. In the spring and summer there are carpets of wildflowers including orchids.
Hire information
The Tramper is available seven days a week (weather permitting) from April to September, and on weekends through October (subject to weather conditions).
Booking in advance is recommended to avoid disappointment.
To ensure your safety and enjoyment all those hiring the Tramper will need to be, or become a member of Countryside Mobility. You become a member when you first hire a Tramper at a Countryside Mobility hire locations so we will take you through the process of completing the membership form and give yout the introductory training to ensure that you feel safe and confident before heading out. Choose from Annual membership for £10 or a taster (2 week) membership for £2.50. Please note we can currently only accept cash if you need to join the scheme. Countryside Mobility membership then enables you to access Trampers at all their 50+ hire locations around the South West (and a few beyond).

Other Facilities
Car parking - There are a few accessible spaces outside the Radar Station (where the Tramper is hired from). There is a small fee for parking if you are not a National Trust member (Blue Badge holders can park for free).
Toilets - There is a toilet block but no specific accessible toilet. The toilet block is open 7 days a week (April to September) and weekends in October (subject to weather conditions)
Refreshments - There is a mobile unit serving drinks and light refreshments with the same availability as the toilets.
